SKOB get going bright 'n early to topple Brighton early

SKOB discover the Joy of Six

SKOB have discovered the joy of six and made it a cool half dozen wins on the trot to begin Season 2018 after a strong win over previously unbeaten Old Brighton at TH King this afternoon.

In pretty good conditions considering the storm and bucketing down over the past two days, St.Kevins put on a great display of Amateur football racing away early with the visitors unable to fight back at any stage.

For the second week in a row SKOB had the perfect start holding their opponents goalless in the first quarter. Flying out of the blocks with 3 quick goals in the opening minutes, SKOB maintained control throughout the term, adding a further three goals to Old Brighton’s 4 solitary behinds. The lead at quarter time was 33 points and from that point the SKOB advantage was rarely challenged.

Old Brighton started better in the second term and soon had their first major for the afternoon. SKOB were able to answer this with one of their own before kicking the next 3 to race away to a 49 point lead half way through the quarter. Old Brighton were able to stem the flow of goals for SKOB but were unable to convert booting a wasteful 1.7 for the half to the accurate 10.2 scored by the home side. At half time the margin remained 49 points.

In the third term, Old Brighton lifted their work rate but SKOB remained dominant and only poor kicking was preventing St.Kevins from putting the visitors away. The sting came out of the game in the third term as SKOB - with the breeze at their backs - put on another 4.7 to 4 behinds.

At three quarter time - despite the result being well established - the coaching staff asked for more from the players and they responded. Kicking 6 goals into the breeze and at one stage threatening to blow the margin out beyond three figures. Old Brighton to their credit never gave up and scored some late goals to reduce the final margin, but it was all SKOB at TH King. Billy Kanakis finished with another 4 goals as he continues his great start to the season. Henry Parkes kicked 3 as did Mitch Brown who was a standout as best on ground.

As the final siren range SKOB ran out winners by 83 points. They now move to 6 and 0 for the season and remain one of only two undefeated sides in the competition (with Collegians) and will look to extend this when they travel to St Bedes next week.

St Kevins OB 6.1-37 10.2-62 14.9- 93 20.9-129
