Vale Ray Harry Hewett

ree

SKOB were saddened to hear of the passing of Ray Harry Hewett. Ray was a star cricketer for the old boys cricket club, but he also played 130 games for our footy club and is famous for two things. He wrote the club song ‘Saint Kevs is ready for the kill….’ And he brought his brother- in- law Ian Burnside down to play - who went on to become club captain and was a staunch member of SKOB. Joining in 1959, Ray played with SKOB until 1968. He was captain coach of the Ressies in 1963 and 1964, winning the Reserves B&F in 1963. Ray has two younger brothers Dennis and Neville, both of whom also played at SKOB in the 60's. He is the uncle of Ian Hewett who played first class cricket for Victoria and played for SKOB in the 1990s. RIP Ray (1940-2025).
