Timely returns tame T's

The Seniors bounced back from their previous round defeat, welcoming back six players, including Captain Tom Jok, as they defeated Old Trinity at Daley Oval on Saturday. The win coming on the back of a strong finish as the T’s pushed them all the way to the finish. Our Reserves also had a win at the Daley as they look to finish the season with some momentum. Good news for the U19s as the Premier team confirmed they will make finals this year. The win over De La at TH King means they can’t miss the four. Our Vipers won and locked up the minor premiership, whilst the SD1’s also won to make it 3 from 3 for the juniors. The Saints had a mixed bag. Our Blues stormed home in the last quarter to win at Westbourne, but the Golds left themselves with too much to make up at the final turn and were not about to reel in their hosts. On Sunday, the Greens flew home with the breeze, but like the Golds had too big a bridge to cross. They’ll get a second chance in the Preliminary final next week. Alas, no second chance for the Stingers who led deep into time on in their knock out semi before Uni Blacks struck twice to drive a dagger into the Stingers 2026 campaign. Six from Nine outings for SKOB as we come to the final round for most teams this weekend.

Sporting their 2026 clash kit and welcoming in six long term absentees to the fold, SKOB leapt from the blocks. From the opening bounce they raced it forward where young Archie Dollman slotted a clever banana goal from a tight angle and the visitors had six points on the board before their hosts had even touched it. The T’s are deep in a relegation scrap and they responded as you’d expect, answering SKOB’s opener with one of their own as the game evened out. Billy Coates was in a good battle with his opponent and even bobbed up for a rare goal after a ruck infringement. Billy Bryan from the line and Will Pfeiffer from the opposite pocket rounded out the goals for SKOB, but the home team were able to find a match for each before the teams took their first hydration break. The second term was much like the first as SKOB scored in the opening minute through Jack Darmody who is really starting to hit his straps at the right end of the season. Like quarter 1, it was pretty much goal for goal up to the main break with a late strike from the returning Billy Bryan giving SKOB the edge at scones by a dozen. The third term was arguably SKOB’s best - certainly the first part of it. Striking early again, SKOB held sway as they pushed their lead out to six goals on the back of some dominant play, but just as it looked all over, the hosts rallied again, booting three late goals to rally the home fans and make things interesting at the last change. Another poacher’s goal from Jack Darmody settled the nerves and when Ollie Gill snapped nicely from the middle of the pack, the game was settled. Jacob Koschitzke still had time to mark on the lead and convert to take some form into next week and the travelling fans went home happy with SKOB running out 31 points to the good.

It was a solid performance and a good response from SKOB. They were not quite as sharp, say as Erling Haaland’s new haircut, but they get another few back and one more crack - this time against the league leaders - in the final round of the season next week. Then it’s on to a cut throat final.  Best for SKOB was returning skipper Tom Jok with Jack Darmody, Jack Mahony, Archie Dollman, Billy Coates and Callum Jones all significant contributors.
