For the first time in the Club's history, a SKOB Senior Men's player has claimed the prestigious JN Woodrow Medal for Best and Fairest in the Premier Grade. Bill Coates capped off a tremendous season by taking out the top gong at the VAFA Awards night on Wednesday in a tie with Sam Conway from Uni Blacks. After winning his third (2016, 2024, 2026) Jack Douglas Medal for SKOB Seniors Best and Fairest which he picked up last Friday, Bill was there on Wednesday night to receive the award with his parents, coach, and a few team mates on board to celebrate the win with him in person.

His coach, Anthony “Plugger” Lynch, described Coates as “The ultimate role model, the ultimate team mate and club man, no one is more dedicated to the cause and in turn no one is more deserving of this incredible award.”

Club President, Pat Mount, went on to add “Coatesy is everything you could ask for in a player - universally respected, ultra consistent and a fantastic person on and off field. The Woodrow is an award that has eluded us for many years and it is fitting that our inaugural winner is Bill Coates. Very well deserved.”

From all at SKOB we congratulate big Coatesy on his great achievement. As mentioned, he has won 3 x Best and Fairest Awards, been a member of 4 x Senior Premierships, Represented the Big V on Multiple occasions, has played over 200 games and is a SKOB Life Member.

Bill joins Kate Stanton (2023 - Women's) as a winner of the Best and Fairest Award in the Premier Grade in the VAFA.

Congratulations to Sam Conway from Uni Blacks who tied for the award with Billy in a thrilling count on Wednesday night.
