Ressies Run Riot

ree

The Ressies have stormed into the Grand Final next weekend with a solid pasting of Old Brighton in the Prelim. The margin blew out over 100 points which was surprising, but SKOB have been top two all year and the Grand Final will quite rightly pit those top two. It was also a battle of the top two in the Under 19 Premier Grand Final on Saturday night and unfortunately for the young SKOBs the result was a reverse of the Ressies game with Old Brighton coming out on top. A disappointing end to the season for the Unders but they should be incredibly proud of their efforts this season. They have proven they are a top class outfit and will provide the Club with many great players in future years. We look forward to seeing a lot more.

Twos by a Stylish Century

After a tight first quarter, SKOB went berserk over the subsequent three terms to book their spot in the Grand Final next Friday. Our intrepid reporter Yanni was there to capture all the action in his weekly rundown

Reserves Rampage: SKOBs Storm Into Grand Final

SKOBs Reserves finals continued with the boys in high spirits, knowing that a win today would take them to the 2025 VAFA Premier Reserve Grand Final. The boys were also keen to right the wrongs of last week.

The Preliminary Final opened as you would expect, given what was on the line. A fierce contest unfolded between the two sides, which added to the intensity. The game soon turned into a scrappy affair as both teams searched for the early advantage. As the quarter entered the later stages, Hamish Reimers showed his importance, giving SKOBs first use of the footy and creating opportunities to attack the scoreboard with goals from Thomas Feehan and Thomas Williams. The SKOBs’ game looked more polished despite holding only a two-point lead at quarter-time.

The second quarter began with SKOBs turning up the heat in the contest. Their game clicked into gear, the Reserves’ quick hands and lightning ball movement setting the boys up for an abundance of scoring opportunities. Hudson Lefoe, Xavier Duke, Samuel Jones, Zane Greenham, Luke Mazzeo, and Jack Ball all got their names on the score sheet. The quarter ended with SKOBs displaying one of their best finals performances, piling on eight unanswered goals.

Coming out of the halftime break, the SKOBs Reserves picked up right where they had left off with their 52-point lead. The boys didn’t hold back, piling on the pain against Old Brighton. The communication from the 22 players on the field proved to be a defining factor in SKOBs’ game plan. The back six went into lockdown, with Lachlan Merrett anchoring the defence and keeping Old Brighton goalless for a second quarter in a row. The ball continued to live in the forward half, and the goal-fest rolled on with another six unanswered goals, extending the margin to a massive 91-point lead.

The final quarter was upon them, and it was clear the SKOB boys wanted to make a statement. They did so by pushing the margin past the magical 100-point mark, capping off a wonderful team performance and setting a club record in a finals game. As the final siren blew, the boys knew they had secured their chance at glory and would play off for the premiership cup. The celebrations were evident, but it was also clear the job was not yet finished, as the boys stood their ground and kept their focus on the 2025 VAFA Reserves Grand Final against rivals Xavier College at Elsternwick Park Oval next week.

Better players for the Ressies were Hamish Reimers, Will Pfeiffer, Oscar White, Jack Ball, Hudson Lefoe and Tom Williams

Not to be for brave 19s

Heartache again for the Under 19s who were tremendously brave, but alas couldn’t overcome Old Brighton in the Grand Final on Saturday evening at Elsternwick Park. SKOB came into the game after a thrilling overtime win in the Preliminary Final and were hopeful of reversing the 2024 result against the same team. A tough challenge became even tougher for SKOB when they lost two players in the first seven minutes of the game - one to concussion - and then had a red card issued to limit their on field numbers late in the first term. Despite the adversity, SKOB held up and were still within distance of the tonners when the players hit the sheds for half time. Conceding the first goal after the major break was not ideal, but from 16 points down, SKOB then had their best passage of the grand final, reeling off three straight goals to hit the front ten minutes into the third. Just as thoughts of an upset were entering fans minds, the undermanned SKOB started to feel the pinch. The fresher Old Brighton team were able to lift again, and struck a double blow. As they turned for home SKOB looked spent, but bravely fought on in the last quarter. Alas, scoring dried up as the tonners slowed down and controlled the footy. SKOB were unable to land another major and Brighton went on to claim the flag. A disappointing finish for Coach Greeny and his lads who had put in a fantastic season, but couldn’t quite reach the pinnacle. They’ll need to lick their wounds and hopefully come back stronger in 2026. Throughout the season they were able to push up players into the Seniors and develop many great young men who will hopefully have long and fulfilling careers with SKOB. Best for SKOB on Saturday were Benjamin Palmer, Samuel Pitot, Edward Burley, Nicholas Nankervis, Ged Saunders and Lucas May
