Hot Scotch skittle SKOB - Saints double up

A barnstorming premiership quarter from Old Scotch flipped the script at Camberwell on Saturday. The six goals to nil third term saw Scotch overcome a half time deficit and defeat SKOB Seniors to keep their slim finals hopes alive and put a dent in SKOB's top two ambitions. A disappointing day for the Seniors on an otherwise fairly successful one for SKOB as the Ressies bounced back to form with a win over Scotch. A clean sweep at our two home decks with the Under 19s going 3 for 3 and the Saints getting a double at Old Rigret. The Stingers came from a mile back to haul in De La in a spirited result, but both the Academy and the SKOB Dogs ran into the Xavs machine and were outclassed. The dreamers were caught napping as the Greens dropped another game, this time to South Melbourne Districts at the Lake. In all, a return of 7 from 11 for SKOB as the race to the finals really ramps up.

SKOB Seniors couldn't keep up with their hosts when they turned the heat up after half time at Camberwell. After a tight first term that saw Scotch eke out a slender lead, SKOB played their best football of the day. With no Koschitzke, Behnk or Tom Jok in the forward line this weekend, SKOB were able to find other targets as Tom Williams booted two clever goals from tight angles, and Callum Jones (back this week) was giving the midfield something to kick to, and providing the Scotch defence with headaches as they stretched a lead out to 25 points in the shadows of half time. SKOB seemed well in control, but Scotch were able to rally late, and post two strikes to cut the margin back to 13 at the main break. Emerging from the sheds, Scotch kept all the momentum going their way, and the visitors were unable to contain the Cardinals run as they put on 6 goals to nil in the quarter. Scotch were now 4 goals to the good at the last change, and although this was not insurmountable, it soon became so as they booted the first two of the last to pretty much seal the deal. Matt Canning produced a ray of hope for SKOB with back to back goals, but by now the Cards were in full control and saw it out comfortably in the finish. A setback for SKOB who suddenly are two games plus percentage off the top two and anxiously hoping to get a few troops back for the final run home of 5 games. SKOB were grateful to have the services of "Easy" Ethan Phillips this weekend, and he was best for the Seniors, along with Billy Coates, Sam Cameron, Jack Andriske, Ben Mansfield and Ollie Gill

Saints celebrate with two gutsy wins

A big day out at Old Rigret for the Saints who had clearly come to play. With a pair of games against old rival West Brunswick Magpies, the Saints went in as underdogs in both, but came out firing against their higher ranked opponents. Celebrating Brigie Snell's 100th game for the Blues, it was tight for a half as the teams hit the sheds all square. A fantastic third quarter by Grace Ellett capped off with a late goal for the Blues saw them edge in front, and after the Maggies levelled in the last, a huge running goal by Lizzie Macey put the blues up by 7pts with 3:35 left. "Jungle Junior" struck again with a running goal from the boundary to ice it, and the Blues were home. The Golds then blasted out of the blocks and kept their foot on the throat of the Mags all day. With Sarah Cameron dominating up forward, the Golds were in control at the main break, and although West Brunswick were able to lift in the second half, the Saints were able to get to the line comfortably and keep their season alive. As always, Sez Withers was there to capture the action.

A treble for the Juniors

It was also a big day at TH King with 3 Under 19 teams doing battle and emerging with 3 great wins. Each win helping their respective teams chances at post season action. The Premier team won a crucial match against Old Scotch, who were level on the table with SKOB coming in to the game. Coach Greeny's lads started the better and held sway all day to finish comfortably ahead. The win propelled them up to second on a very tight table that has all teams from 2 to 5 on the same points. Earlier, the SD1's had a big win over their nearest challenger (Old Haileybury) for a top four spot, picking up percentage and four vital points along the way. In the opening game, our Vipers held out a fast finishing South Melbourne, to emerge intact at the top of the table with four to play. Danny Egan was there to capture it all.
