Flag Day at the King Dome

You can forget about Gather Round, this week it's a festival of flags and footy at the King Dome. Yes, all roads lead to High St as the King sets itself to host four massive games of footy - and three flags unfurling to boot. We may not have the bulging marketing budgets of our cousins in the AFL, but the SKOB PR engine has been working behind the scenes to put on a big event - and a tasty lunch - for what we anticipate will be a huge crowd. Our men's and women's teams will both take to the stage at home for the first time this season.

Having witnessed Old Haileybury's excellent flag ceremony last weekend, the Seniors will get their own chance to acknowledge 2022's success at home before they take on Caulfield Grammarians. It is a huge occasion for the club, but there is a big game to be played as well. Last week the Seniors fell in by the merest of margins and will be wary of Caulfield who are coming off a loss in round one and looking to get their season kick started. It should be a cracking encounter. The flag unfurling will happen at about 1:55 before the bounce at 2:00. Our Reserves will be looking to make it two from two against Caulfield at 11:40. Coach Clough had the perfect start to the season with a solid win last week and will be keen to keep his 100% record intact - early days... The Men's Thirds are again dining out at the prime time hour of 2:00pm. It's a second week in a row on the road for Ollie's men as they head to Crawford Oval where Uni Blues will be the hosts. Hopefully they can pick up four points then come back to the King after the game to watch the Saints.

Saints are hungry for more

On a cold November day (remember the weather last Spring? Shocking...) the Saints gathered to pose with two new additions of quality cloth. They will get the chance to reveal these again on Saturday, and if last weekend's performance by the Saints Gold team is any indication, they are determined and hungry for more. There was a huge buzz on Thursday night at selection with coach Tommy Purcell almost launching into a rendition of the SKOBIETTA as he was reading out the half back line - such was his enthusiasm with revving up the crowd. They are ready to rock the King Dome but will be coming up against some stiff opposition. Melbourne Uni knocked off the highly fancied Coburg in Round 1 and will be primed to spoil the Saints party. It all starts at 4:40 with the flag unfurling (following the Seniors game) at TH King. Over at Old Rigret our Saints Blue play Melbourne Uni from 12:00 and will be looking to get the season going after a tight 2 point loss last weekend. The Blues will be stinging from that defeat and ready for redemption. As mentioned earlier our mighty Saints Green kick off the big day at TH King when they unfurl their flag at 9:15am (coffee anyone?) before taking on Kew. Both these teams opened season 2023 with solid wins last week. Kew smashed the West Brunnies in Round one and look like they could be a big threat this year. Coach Lewis might be looking a little more cautious in the pre-game selfie

Road trips for the 19's

With the Saints and Seniors taking centre stage at home our Under 19's are all on the road this weekend. The Under 19 Premier Team will jump on the West Gate and head over to Fearon Reserve to take on Williamstown from 2pm. They had a really good crack at Old Xavs last weekend but ultimately came up short and will want to reverse that result against Willy who themselves are coming off a loss. It should be a close tussle. Not to be confused with Fearon Reserve our Div 2 boys are at Frearson Oval (Monash) Saturday to take on Monash Blues at 9:20am. Monash are always hard to beat out there so SKOB are up against it, but buoyed by their success in round one they will go in with every confidence. In Div 4, our guys are getting up at the absolute crack of dawn to Alec Gillon Oval where they will play Brunswick from 9:00am (good grief!). Coops has the whistle for this one so he'd better have two alarm clocks set.

Feet Up for the Masters

The Masters will have a chance to rest their weary bones from last week's battle. The warm conditions on Sunday took a lot out of these warriors, so let's hope they can use the time to load up on some quality H2O and some relaxing couch time.

Home Game lunch - Last chance!

There's a massive day planned for Saturday 22nd April at TH King with 3 flags to unfurl and 4 big games on to entertain everyone. Our Saints Green will unfurl their flag before the 9:20 kickoff, then after a pre-match luncheon, our Seniors will unfurl their 2022 flag at 2:00pm, followed by the Saints Gold at 4:40pm.

There are still spots available but you MUST BOOK NOW.

With thanks to our match day luncheon sponsors Tilling Timber
