Dour day - Deal done

SKOB Seniors slogged through what seemed like 15 rounds with a determined Uni Blacks on a perfect day for footy. Emerging with a precious 4 points was all SKOB needed and that's about all they got, but get them they did, with the result and results elsewhere all but guaranteeing post season action for the 8th season in succession. Earlier, the Blacks had the better of both the Ressies and the SKOB Dogs as they looked to make a clean sweep at the King. Over at Camberwell, the Saints Gold ran into the overwhelming force of the Scotch Tsunami who ran them ragged all day. The Saints Blue having come all so close in the curtain raiser. Fortunately for the Saints, the Green Machine were able to salute in their top four clash with the 'wickers at Old Rigret. For the 19s there was a mixed bag of results. The Premier boys registered a crucial win over Uni Blues at Crawford, whilst the SD1s dropped vital points at Ormond and the Vipers had a twilight to forget at Oakleigh. In Thirds action, the Academy (with only 17 men) had a stirring win over the Snowdogs who had the full complement as well as 6 on the bench. The Stingers were too strong for the Panthers as Jasper Conquest landed a dozen snags. 5 wins from 11 outings for SKOB who are desperate to get numbers back to normal across the grades. SKOB were 34 players short across the 11 teams collectively and will be hoping to refuel as soon as possible.

Just enough of the right stuff

In a game that may not exactly have you scrambling to pay up your Kommunity TV subscription to watch again on replay, the SKOB Seniors eked out a result against a very determined and steely Uni Blacks team that were harder to break down than raw veggies. The Blacks managed to keep SKOB goalless in two of the four terms, but SKOB were able to make enough hay in the other two - and on the back of their own resolute defence - scratch out enough points to get the biscuits on a day where afternoon tea made it's triumphant return to the half time convivials. The students came in with a game plan set to stifle SKOB's scoring, and it worked perfectly in the first term as they blunted their hosts and set about building a buffer. Two goals to nil in the opening stanza, then scoring the first major in the next was cause enough for consternation on the local fans faces and a feeling that the pending afternoon tea buffet would be anything but pleasant. But SKOB were finally able to get their game going, scoring 3 goals on the bounce to hit the sheds with their noses marginally in front. The third quarter was easily the best of the day as both sides managed to hit the scoreboard as momentum shifted and swung between the combatants. It was Senior debutant Will Cooper who stepped up and gave SKOB a forward target they so desperately craved. Booting two goals for the home team at a vital stage, he helped his side extend their biggest lead of the day out to 14 points before the visitors struck in the shadows of 3/4 time to make it an 8 point margin as they turned for home. Most neutrals would probably wished they had turned for home at that point as the game became a desperate territory battle with neither pubilist able to land the knockout blow. SKOB had chances, but missed them all, whilst the Blacks posted the only major to make it a very nervous countdown to the final whistle for the hometown supporters. The SKOB defence stood up and would not be breached again, as they held on to take the vital 4 premiership points on offer. With results elsewhere favouring SKOB, they have all but mathematically guaranteed finals action for an eighth straight year. Hopes for top two are still alive, although SKOB would need to win out from here, but at least they have fate in their own hands. Best for SKOB were Billy McGee Galimberti, Ethan Phillips, Jack Behnk, Liam Gunson, William Cooper and Ben Mansfield

Scotch Tsunami sinks Saints

The Saints Gold ran into a red hot Scotch Stars team that were merciless all day. The Saints never stopped trying but were no match for their hosts. Earlier the Saints Blues came within a whisker of an upset, going down by just two points in a valiant effort. As usual, "Dancing" Sarah Withers caught all the action from the 'well.
