The entire SKOB community and, we are sure, all those from the wider VAFA community – particularly including those from De La Salle - were saddened to learn of the passing of Joyce Phillips, mother of Tony ("General" - Under 19s coach) and grandmother of Ethan this morning.
The General penned a few words for the website.
Mum was born in Mildura in 1940, a good catholic one of 9. Brought up on a fruit block she met her future husband, David who was a rep for Westinghouse when she was a nurse at the Mildura base hospital in 1964. They married in 1965 and agreed to live in Melbourne have a family, bring them up in the city and retire back in Mildura. In 1966 The General arrived followed by his brother Jason in 1970. Joy was a loving mother who was heavily involved in her sons lives and sporting pursuits. She hated being called Joyce and even more Joycee! She was a fantastic Grandmother to her Grandchildren, Ethan, Oliver and Angus all St Kevin’s boys and Jason’s daughter Ashleigh and son Jacob. She will be missed by all that met her.
We wish the Phillip’s family all the best at this difficult time.
