Beachside bootcamp

Updated: Mar 16, 2018

The Senior squad enjoyed a wonderful bonding weekend at Barwon Heads the weekend before. Friday was all about the players learning about game style, defensive and offensive structures intertwined with some fun games. Most enjoyed a couple of wind down beers at the BHP (Barwon Heads Pub) and on Saturday it was down to work. Training started at 8.30am with a Senior group of players embarking on an intense training session for over 2 hours. For the balance of the squad it was game time v Barwon Heads Football Club.

The young boys played some some very good football with many putting their hands up for selection in the first practice match. Saturday night it was dinner on the deck at the Barwon Heads Football Club and then out and about. The weekend wound up on Sunday recovery at the beach which was enjoyed buy all. The Camp is a great way to educate, work hard and bond. It sets the foundation for 2018.

The Saints headed down to Sorrento on Saturday for the weekend too. The girls were greeted on arrival with an intense and demanding bootcamp which tested everyone’s resolve. Those who survived headed to the Sorrento Hotel for a relaxing dinner and then an “early night” back at Lisa Ring’s. A big thanks to Lisa for opening up her home. Sunday was back to work with footballs out and a solid training session before recovery and back to Melbourne.

In regard to our list, we can report that some exciting players are back around the club. These include young men returning to SKOB from TAC / VFL / Dev league stints including Michael Romero, James Corboy, Lachie McKenzie and Jack Holden.

We have plenty of players that are currently on VFL lists with SKOB as their home club. These include Tom Jok, Lachie Sullivan, Josh Wallis, Bill Coates, Billy Lloyd, Vincent Aducci, Angus Scott, Ethan Phillips, Cody Henness, and Ned Reeves. We wish these boys all the best.

Also, all our coaches have stepped into their 2018 duties with great enthusiasm and passion. Particularly positive is the way Guy Martin and Tom Williams have seamlessly taken the reins of the Senior group.

Finally, practice matches start next Thursday. It would be great to see plenty of support at these games:

  • Saturday 17th March v Blackburn at Morton Park - Seniors/Reserves/U19s

  • Saturday 24th March v Old Xavier at Mt Eliza - Seniors/Reserves/Thirds x 2/Saints x 2 (please note: no U19s)

Thursday 29th March 6pm v Sandringham – Senior Squad (simulated match practice) TBC
