SKOB to tackle Trinity in Prelim

St.Kevin's OB will need to progress through the Preliminary Final next week after suffering defeat at the hands of Collegians today in the Second Semi Final at Elsternwick Park. Early injuries cruelled SKOB’s chances as they lost three players for the day from early in the 2nd quarter and despite battling hard were always up against it. However, by virtue of finishing the season in top spot, SKOB have earned a second chance and will play Old Trinity in a cut throat Prelim next week. Collegians proved too strong on this day for SKOB and will enjoy a rest having qualified directly for the Grand Final.

In wintry cold conditions it was Collegians that had the early running in the first term but SKOB finished the quarter with a burst of 4 goals and managed to get to quarter time only a point in arrears. By this stage they were already down 2 men and this was compounded early in the second quarter when they lost Steven Gilham with a knee injury and were down 3 for the day. From that point on Collegians were able to exploit the advantage given them and they hit the sheds at half time with a healthy lead of 21 points.

Captain Anthony Lynch was dominant in the ruck all day for SKOB

Despite being down in personnel skob were brave in the second half and staged an almighty comeback in the last quarter to get within a point at the 25 minute mark before a late goal to collegians settled the issue. SKOB will need to recover quickly and come back next week in the Prelim.
